Tom MacRae’s Series 2 Pete’s World two-parter “Rise of the Cybermen”/”The Age of Steel” was inspired by Marc Platt’s Fifth Doctor audio Spare Parts, about the origins of the Cybermen on their home planet of Mondas (he’s even thanked in the credits). Russell T Davies has described Spare Parts as “some of the finest drama ever written for any genre, in any medium, anywhere.”
